In the southern region of Malawi where AID AFRICA is based, the main city is Blantyre.   It has an international airport, banking facilities, metalled roads, supermarkets, shops and businesses.

Four hours drive out into the Bush, where Aid Africa works, the roads become potholed dirt tracks, the shops and businesses mainly roadside kiosks, and subsistence farming the main employment.  

Life is hard in the remote areas.

 

BUT THE BAD NEWS ........

Hunger, poverty, millions of orphans, a shockingly high prevalence of HIV\AIDS,

limited education, healthcare, poor nutrition, and an extreme climate - from scorching drought to torrential floods

It’s economy is heavily dependent on agriculture -nearly 90% of the population engages in subsistence farming, so is particularly vulnerable to external shocks such as drought.
