“TREE OF LIFE” BIBLE SCHOOL
The “Tree of Life” bible classes were started at the request of the local pastors in 2005. The majority of them have never had any formal training, but have come into the job as a sense of calling and love for their fellow Christians.
The training starts with basic bible knowledge, i.e., how the bible came to be as it is, who the writers were, biblical doctrines of faith, grace, salvation, etc. and moves through into more practical needs of pastoring a group of people and being able to meet their spiritual needs.
Two centres have been established, one at our home base of Chiringa where up to thirty pastors attend, and the other in Phalombe- about an hour’s drive away - where up to forty come.
The pastors of these churches are as poor as their congregations, mostly unpaid, and struggling to feed their families. Some have suits and shoes, threadbare and worn over many years, but these men care greatly for their people and need as much support and care as we can give them.
Inside two church buildings in the bush. Seats are rare, people sit on dried mud “pews”, or a bamboo mat on the floor.
Roofs are vulnerable to the climate and ineffective in the rains.
